I thought someone who had a photographic memory was able to take a mental photograph of anything that they saw and then recall it in total detail. For example, if they saw a a row of parked cars, they'd be able to remember later in the day all the car registration plate numbers by recalling the scene and all its details - does that make sense? If you can do things like that, I'd say you have a photographic memory. I can use a skill like that some times. If I can't remember where I've left something, I'll look at mental photos of rooms I've been in until I 'see' the item I need.

Some people have an extraordinary memory. They can remember things in great detail after seeing them just once.

For example, if you show them a long list of items or a picture, they'll be able to tell you everything about it, some might even be able to draw the image completely from memory.

Such a memory like having a photograph of everything you can see, that's why it's known as a 'photographic memory'.
