Is it possible for someone to develop a photographic memory?
If so, how can someone go about doing it? Even if the photographic memory thing is a little far out, what are some ways that someone can develop mega-memory skills when it comes to the names and faces that we see and hear everyday? I’d like to hear of any suggestions about how someone can do this….brain foods, mental exercises, etc. Thanks!
Photographic memory is a myth, it doesn’t exist. To improve your memory you need to work on three things:
1. Your health: two most important things, assuming you have no actual disease are eat fish and take a multivitamin.
2. Your attention: if you don’t notice something, like where you left your car keys, you won’t remember it.
3. Mnemonics: These are memorization techniques. Most of them make use of visualization. For example, you will associate the number 9 with a girafe and the number 7 with a nazi officer, and when you need to remember something with these two numbers you will include a mental image of a nazi riding a girafe to remember 79. Just google it, there are websites that go into more detail on this.
The most effective memory (and attention) system I know is provided by iMasterMemory.com, but it’s expensive. You could learn the basics by reading their free manual though.
Everyone has photographic memory. Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to dream.
I agree - to some extent really everyone has it, and it can be trained.
Mine improved greatly, when I started using flashcards for learning, also I’ve read in different places, that to have good memory, you really just need to develop a habit of deliberately remembering things as they happen… it might feel slow and weird at first, but it soon becomes second nature.
