It is well known that some idiot savants have a highly developed memory, allowing them to read entire books in minutes

True photographic memory like this is very rare and as far as I understand stems from the inability of the conscious mind to filter out memories from the subconscious so everything is retained and recalling these memories is easy, but the price to pay is a deficit in specific regions of the brain which controls our intelligence and other essential higher functions, including imagination. Our imagination often blurs our ability to recall things with a significant degree of accuracy, unless it somehow makes an impression on us. Witness reports are notoriously unreliable for this reason. Did the girl wear white or blue dress? Idiot savants dont have much of an imagination

Memory champions like Tony Buzan do not have photographic memories at all but they do regularly exercise their powers of memory and have a few tricks at their disposal such as word associations and mind maps which helps them

Born with it. You could try memory exercises, apparently they help. Like think of something one day and try to remember it the next and keep adding to it...or something like that

Nice name, my son's initials are J. Z. (no not after the rapper)
